Main biography

I am a biblical scholar and teacher with particular interests in Biblical Hebrew, the Hebrew Bible / Old Testament, and the Jewish background of the New Testament.

My academic work and teaching have involved the biblical languages, interpretation of the Hebrew Bible, Jewish literature and traditions, and the historical and linguistic context of the biblical text.

I have taught Biblical Hebrew, Greek, Aramaic and related areas of biblical and Jewish studies, working with students from a wide range of backgrounds, from those encountering the biblical languages for the first time to students seeking more advanced engagement with the original texts.

My approach combines careful attention to language, grammar, literary genre, historical context, intertextuality, and interpretation. I am particularly interested in helping students move beyond simply parsing words toward understanding how the Hebrew text actually communicates.

Academic Background

My academic background includes study and research connected with the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the University of Aberdeen, where I completed doctoral research in biblical studies.

My research interests have included Jewish traditions, the Hebrew Bible, the New Testament in its Jewish context, and the interpretation of Scripture in the New Testament and early Judaism.

Teaching

Over the years I have taught Biblical Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic, the Hebrew Bible / Old Testament, the New Testament, and subjects relating to Judaism and the Jewish background of early Christianity.

I particularly enjoy working with students who want to recover Hebrew they once studied, improve their ability to read biblical texts independently, or investigate a difficult exegetical or linguistic question in greater depth.
